Manager of Business Development & Marketing

Commonwealth Building, Inc. has an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Manager of Business Development & Marketing to join our team in Rockland, Massachusetts. This position will play an important role in supporting the continued growth of Commonwealth Building by identifying new business opportunities, developing and maintaining industry relationships, strengthening our market presence, and leading the company’s business development and marketing initiatives.

The Manager of Business Development & Marketing will work closely with company leadership, Pre-Construction, Estimating, and Project Management teams to identify opportunities, develop relationships, support proposal efforts, and help position CBI for continued growth.

Primary Duties 

Business Development & Relationship Management

  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities that align with Commonwealth Building’s strategic goals and areas of expertise.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, architects, engineers, design teams, third-party partners, and other industry professionals.
  • Generate new leads and prospective opportunities through networking, market research, referrals, industry involvement, and direct prospecting.
  • Research prospective clients, projects, and market sectors to identify opportunities for continued growth.
  • Conduct market analysis to identify industry trends, emerging opportunities, areas for growth, and opportunities to expand CBI’s presence across market sectors.
  • Develop and implement business development strategies that support company growth objectives.
  • Establish and manage strategic sales goals and business development initiatives.
  • Develop strategies to strengthen and expand Commonwealth Building’s presence within the AEC industry.
  • Arrange and conduct meetings with existing and prospective clients to develop relationships and identify future opportunities.
  • Maintain consistent communication with key clients and industry partners to strengthen long-term relationships.
  • Attend and actively participate in trade shows, industry events, networking opportunities, and local Chamber functions to represent CBI and develop new relationships.
  • Provide company leadership with regular updates regarding business development activity, prospective opportunities, pipeline development, and other key indicators.
  • Request and review client feedback and work with internal teams to identify and implement appropriate action items.

Proposals, RFPs & Pre-Construction Support

  • Coordinate and manage the sales and proposal process in collaboration with company leadership, Pre-Construction, Estimating, and Project Management teams.
  • Monitor prospective opportunities and coordinate internal efforts to ensure RFP and proposal requirements are addressed accurately and on time.
  • Collaborate closely with the Pre-Construction team throughout the RFP process.
  • Assist in developing proposal strategies that effectively communicate CBI’s qualifications, experience, capabilities, and approach.
  • Prepare and coordinate sales presentations and other client-facing materials.
  • Assist company leadership with formal proposal presentations and client interviews.
  • Develop and maintain proposal materials, including project experience, team member resumes, client references, project lists, company qualifications, and other supporting information.
  • Identify opportunities to continuously improve the quality and presentation of CBI’s RFP and proposal materials.
  • Support client negotiations and follow-up efforts associated with prospective projects and contract opportunities.
  • Track proposal activity and outcomes to help evaluate business development effectiveness.

Marketing & Brand Development

  • Develop and manage marketing initiatives that support CBI’s business development, recruiting, and overall company objectives.
  • Create and manage targeted marketing campaigns designed to strengthen brand awareness and support growth initiatives.
  • Develop content for company marketing and communication channels, including the CBI website, social media, press releases, presentations, and other corporate materials.
  • Maintain consistent messaging and branding across company communications and marketing materials.
  • Develop and maintain marketing collateral for business development and recruiting efforts.
  • Identify creative opportunities to showcase CBI’s projects, capabilities, team, and experience.
  • Coordinate project photography and other visual content for use across CBI’s website, social media, proposals, presentations, and marketing materials.
  • Work with project teams to identify construction milestones and completed projects that can be highlighted through company marketing.
  • Monitor website and social media activity to evaluate engagement and identify opportunities to strengthen CBI’s digital presence.
  • Support company announcements, project updates, employee recognition, community involvement, and other external communications as appropriate.

CRM & Business Development Tracking

  • Manage and maintain CBI’s CRM system as the central resource for business development activities, client relationships, leads, and prospective opportunities.
  • Develop and implement an effective onboarding process for new clients.
  • Establish CRM workflows, automation, and best practices to support business development activities.
  • Customize and continually improve the CRM system to meet CBI’s business development and reporting needs.
  • Maintain accurate and current client, prospect, and industry contact information.
  • Enter, maintain, and track leads, pipeline activity, prospective projects, and potential work.
  • Track opportunities from initial identification through proposal, award, or closeout.
  • Maintain records of client communications, meetings, follow-up activities, and relationship development efforts.
  • Manage and track business development and sales goals within the CRM system.
  • Develop and maintain proposal templates to support the RFP process.
  • Build, manage, and track proposals and related business development activity.
  • Utilize CRM information to provide leadership with visibility into the company’s pipeline and ongoing business development efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in business development, sales, lead generation, client relationship management, strategic partnerships, marketing, or a related role.
  • Experience within the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) industry strongly preferred.
  • Strong ability to develop and maintain relationships with new and existing clients, industry partners, and other key stakeholders.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate professionally with clients, company leadership, and internal teams.
  • Strong networking and interpersonal skills with the ability to comfortably represent Commonwealth Building at client meetings, industry events, and professional organizations.
  • Ability to analyze market trends, identify prospective opportunities, and develop strategies that support company growth.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives, relationships, proposals, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience working with CRM platforms and maintaining business development pipelines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across Pre-Construction, Estimating, Project Management, and company leadership.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of business development and marketing initiatives.
