Assistant Estimator – Commercial Construction

The Assistant Estimator supports the estimating team in preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. This position assists with quantity takeoffs, subcontractor solicitation, bid preparation, and data management. It is a training role designed to develop the skills and experience necessary to advance into a Junior Estimator and/or Estimator position.

Primary Duties:

  • Set up RFQ / RFP in the construction management system and distribute bid packages to qualified subcontractors and vendors.
  • Solicit, track, review, and qualify subcontractor and supplier proposals to ensure scope completeness and compliance with bid requirements.
  • Assist with detailed quantity takeoffs from architectural, structural, and MEP drawings and specifications.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits, document existing conditions, logistics constraints, and constructability considerations.
  • Research, update, and maintain unit cost pricing and historical cost data.
  • Maintain and manage subcontractor and vendor databases, including trade coverage, regional performance, and scope strengths/weaknesses.
  • Assist with assembling estimate spreadsheets, bid forms, scope sheets, and proposal qualifications.
  • Participate in internal estimate reviews and bid qualification meetings.
  • Support multiple bid efforts simultaneously while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Perform periodic site visits during the estimating phase as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in estimating, construction, or a related A/E/C role preferred.
  • Basic understanding of commercial construction methods, materials, and drawings.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook; experience with Procore, MS Project, Bluebeam, or similar estimating software preferred.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented, deadline-driven environment.
